How to correctly arrange the printing color sequence

the color of printed matter is overprinted by inks with different hues. The order of overprint inks is called printing color sequence. According to the principle of permutation and combination, four-color (yellow, magenta, cyan and black) printing can have 24 different printing color sequences, but only selecting the printing color sequence that conforms to the overprint law can make the color of the printed matter closer to the original, make the image level clear, point clear, and achieve the correct gray balance. However, due to factors such as mutual overprint, ink defects and paper quality, different printing color sequences will directly affect the quality of printed matter. Therefore, only by arranging the printing color sequence scientifically and reasonably can we obtain high-quality prints with correct, soft, rich layers and correct colors to meet the needs of customers

general principles for determining the printing color sequence

1. Determine the printing color sequence according to the content and characteristics of the original. Generally, prints with warm colors, such as figure paintings, are printed first in cyan and black, then in magenta and yellow; For cold tone prints, such as snow paintings and landscape paintings, magenta is printed first and then cyan

2. For printed matter mainly composed of text and black field or used to avoid and reduce falling and object impact injury, the printing color sequence generally adopts blue, magenta, yellow and black. However, black words and patterns cannot be printed on the yellow field, because the viscosity of yellow ink is small, and the viscosity of black ink is large, which is easy to produce reverse overprint, resulting in the failure or inaccuracy of black ink

3. determine the printing color sequence according to the size of the point coverage area. Generally, those with small dot coverage area shall be printed first, and those with large dot coverage area shall be printed later

4. arrange the printing color sequence according to the peace and field. When the printed matter is flat and on the ground, in order to obtain good printing quality, avoid the problem of rubbing and dirt in the process of paper handover, and make the field flat, bright and thick ink, it is generally printed flat pictures and texts first, and then on the ground

5. arrange the printing color sequence according to the model. Due to the different overprint states of monochrome machine and multicolor machine (the former is wet and dry, the latter is wet and wet), the arrangement of printing color sequence is also different. In general, the printing color sequence of monochrome machine and two-color machine should be alternating between light and dark colors. Four color printing machine generally prints dark colors first, and then bright colors

6. arrange the printing color sequence according to the nature of the paper. The smoothness, whiteness, fiber looseness, surface strength and ink absorption of various papers are different. For papers with good ink absorption, dark colors are printed first, and then bright colors are printed; For paper with poor ink absorption, first print bright colors, and then print dark colors, because bright ink such as yellow ink can cover paper defects such as hair and powder loss. In hot summer, when printing monochrome with white paperboard, if the water content of the paper is uneven, the wrinkles are uneven, and the surface strength of the paper is poor, which causes the paper to lose hair and powder, the measure of printing a layer of water first can be adopted

7. arrange the printing color sequence according to the brightness of the three primary color inks. The brightness of the ink is reflected in the spectrophotometry curve of the ink. The higher the reflectivity, the higher the brightness of the ink. The order of the brightness of the three primary color inks is yellow cyan plastic bending tester related technology introduction red black

8. arrange the printing color sequence according to the transparency and hiding power of the three primary color inks. The transparency and hiding power of ink depend on the refractive index difference between pigment and binder. The ink with strong hiding power has a great influence on the color after overprint. If it is printed after overprint, it is not easy to show the correct color and achieve a good color mixing effect. Therefore, generally speaking, the ink with poor transparency should be printed first, and the ink with strong transparency should be printed later

9. arrange the printing color sequence according to the dryness of the ink. Practice has proved that yellow ink is nearly twice as fast as magenta ink, magenta ink is twice as fast as green ink, and black ink is the slowest. Slow drying ink should be printed first, and fast drying ink should be printed later. Monochrome machine overprint to prevent vitrification, usually the last yellow to accelerate conjunctival drying

10. determine the printing color sequence according to the viscosity of the ink. Monochrome machine is to overprint the second color after the first color is dry, while multi-color machine is wet press wet overprint, so we should control the viscosity and ink amount of the ink. The ink with high viscosity should be printed first, and the ink with low viscosity should be printed later

11. arrange the printing color sequence according to dark and light colors. In order to make the printed matter have a certain gloss, when it comes to printing light colors, print dark colors first and then light colors

12. determine the printing color sequence according to the nesting characteristics. When two-color machine printing four colors, try to choose the first printing with tight two-color nesting, and the second printing with low nesting requirements

special requirements for printing color sequence arrangement

1. When printing securities, patterns are usually printed first, followed by patterns, words and numbers

2. When copying originals such as chromatic prints, the arrangement of printing color sequence should be consistent with the chromatic sequence of chromatic prints as far as possible

3. New Year pictures, monthly calendars and other prints with spot color borders, which are usually printed last

4. the printing color sequence of the printed matter that needs to adopt the inner printing process is generally opposite to that of the surface printing

5. For the printed matter with requirements of glazing, bronzing (hot anodized aluminum) and film covering, the process flow generally prints the color ink first, and then the glazing, ironing workbench and upper beam connect the gold and film covering through two columns. However, for the printed matter with some special requirements, when other colors need to be printed on the anodized aluminum, the above process flow must be changed. At the same time, it must be noted that the adhesion of the ink is not greater than that of the anodized aluminum to the substrate and that of the pre printed ink layer to the anodized aluminum

6. When gold and silver ink are to be printed on the printed matter, due to the small adhesion of gold and silver ink, the gold and silver ink should be printed last. If there are words and patterns on the gold and silver ink, the words should be printed separately at last

7. The superiority of the last printing yellow ink in four-color printing. ① Due to the good transparency of yellow ink, the arrangement of printing in the last color is convenient for enough white light to enter the upper and lower ink layers to obtain bright and bright colors, which is conducive to better color restoration of printed matter. ② Yellow ink has faster drying (2) admixture drying performance and larger printing area. Arranging the yellow ink in the last color printing can not only prevent the vitrification caused by the rapid drying of the yellow ink, but also make full use of its large printing area and quickly oxidize the conjunctiva to cover the surface of other ink layers, so that the printed matter has a certain gloss

in a word, in the specific printing process, we should flexibly select the best printing color sequence according to the quality requirements of the printed matter and the overprint law, so as to develop strengths and circumvent weaknesses, control color deviation, and print the most ideal printed matter
